Recommended Jira Settings for Time Doctor Integration

TL;DR:

Disable email notifications for Time Doctor time entries and allow time to be logged on closed issues to ensure accurate sync between JIRA and Time Doctor.

Recommended Configuration for Smooth Integration

After integrating your company's Jira account with Time Doctor, implement the following two settings to ensure seamless operation:

1. Disable Jira Email Notifications for Time Tracked with Time Doctor

Note: Must have Administer Jira global permission.

How to Disable Email Notifications for a Project

Jira uses notification schemes to manage email alerts. To disable them:

  1. Go to the project’s sidebar and select Project settings > Notifications.

  2. Click Actions > Use a different scheme.

  3. From the Schemes dropdown, select None.

  4. Click Associate.

Note: A single notification scheme may be shared by multiple projects. Edit with caution.

How to Configure the Sender Email Address
  1. Go to the project via the JIRA icon > Projects.

  2. Select Settings > Summary.

  3. In the Notifications section, click the pencil icon beside Email address.

  4. In the dialog box, enter a valid address in the Email field and click Update.

  5. To revert to the default, leave the Email field blank.

User Control Over Notifications

Users can modify their personal settings to:

  • Enable or disable notifications for mentions, assignments, and updates.

  • Select preferred email format (text or HTML).

To change default email format site-wide:

  1. Go to JIRA icon > Jira settings > System.

  2. Select Default user preferences > Edit default values.

  3. Choose the format in Email format dropdown.

  4. Click Update.

Troubleshooting Notification Issues

Use the Notification helper (Jira icon > Jira settings > System > Notification helper) to investigate notification delivery problems.

Jira Free Plan Limitation: Max of 100 emails per day. Upgrade or contact Atlassian support if more are needed.

2. Allow Time to Be Logged on Closed Issues

Why This Matters

Time Doctor may delay syncing time data by up to one hour. If an issue is closed in JIRA before the sync completes, tracked time will not be logged.

Recommended Action

Configure Jira permissions or workflow to allow time entries on closed issues.

Without this configuration, Time Doctor-tracked time will be lost if the issue is closed too soon.
