How to Integrate with Redmine

TL;DR:

Integrate Redmine with Time Doctor to enable time tracking directly on Redmine tasks. Setup involves enabling REST API in Redmine, configuring API access, and ensuring enumeration values exist. Time data syncs hourly and is viewable in both platforms.

Steps on how to Integrate with Redmine

Step 1 – Enable REST Web Service in Redmine

  • Go to http://your-host-url/settings?tab=authentication and ensure the REST web service option is enabled.

Step 2 – Locate Your Redmine API Key

  • Visit http://your-host-url/my/account to find your API key.

Step 3 – Enter Host URL and API Key in Time Doctor

  • In Time Doctor, navigate to the Redmine integration section. Enter your Redmine host URL. Once submitted, you will be prompted to enter your API key.

Step 4 – Configure Activities in Redmine

To allow time entries to sync back to Redmine:

  • Visit http://your-host-url/enumerations.

  • Ensure at least one value exists under Activities (time tracking).

Step 5 – Have Users Enable the Integration

Each user should:

  • Visit their User Integration Settings page.

  • Toggle the Redmine integration to On.

What Happens Next?

Redmine projects and issues will now appear in Time Doctor reports. If Step 4 was completed, time data from Time Doctor will also show in Redmine reports.

Time data is synced from Time Doctor to Redmine once every hour.
