How much data does Time Doctor use in a day?

TL;DR:

Time Doctor uses an average of 25–40 MB of data during an 8–10-hour workday, primarily due to the screenshot feature. Reduce data usage by disabling or lowering screenshot frequency.

Estimated Daily Data Usage

The Time Doctor desktop app typically consumes 25–40 MB of data during a standard 8–10-hour workday.

Note: Data usage increases significantly when screenshots are enabled. The higher the screenshot frequency, the greater the data consumption.

Primary Factors Affecting Bandwidth Usage

The most impactful variable in data usage is screenshot capture. Below are the key factors that influence bandwidth consumption:

  1. Are Screenshots Active?
Disabling screenshots significantly reduces data usage. Disable this feature for specific users from the Settings / Users page.
  2. Screenshot Frequency
The more frequently screenshots are taken, the higher the bandwidth usage. To reduce data usage, increase the interval between screenshots in Settings / Company Settings.
  3. Number of Monitors
Each connected monitor increases the number of screenshots taken. For example, two monitors result in double the screenshots, doubling the data required for upload.
  4. Monitor Resolution
Screenshots from high-resolution monitors generate larger file sizes, which require more bandwidth to upload.

Additional Considerations

  1. Transferring tracked time data uses a minimal amount of data.

  2. For optimal performance, maintain an upload bandwidth of at least 1 Mbps.

Monitor Data Usage

Several third-party tools are available to track data usage by specific apps. One such tool can be found here.

Note: Time Doctor does not provide support for third-party tools.
